CopperHeart originally serves as my (James Langston's) M.A Sound Praxis (end of degree) project,  This Animated Musical Production serves to story-tell Swansea's Copper industry history (Copperopolis) in 7 songs. Inspired by Steampunk Music, CopperHeart brings out a new standing in the world of SteamPunk Music, which from following the concept of blending the old and new, I have established what can be called 'Welsh Steampunk Music'  by utilizing traditional Welsh musical style features Male voice Choirs, and harps for example, and blending  contemporary genres such as Industrial Techno, rock and pop elements, more can be explained in my report.

It has been an amazing journey as documented in the blog, it has taken me far, I was fortunate to have the early project exhibited at my M.A Exhibition show (as seen in the image gallery below):

The feedback I had from the public and the university has been really encouraging (which can be found in the blog), so from the strength of that, and also from speaking with Friends of White Rock, I believe that I can expand CopperHeart further with more support from the museums and heritage collectives like Friends of White Rock. I intend to commercialise CopperHeart to be a 12-14 track EP extending the story of Swansea as whole, or further explore stories that are under Copperopolis with full animation, also to be fully recorded (both in musicians and voice actors as well as sounds). I additionally intend to make it Bilingual in Welsh and English, so that I can be eligible for as many funding opportunities as I can.

1. The first of the Animated Musical Productions (December 2016 - May 2018):

It was originally created for Third year undergraduate end of degree project.  Gloriana is a Biographical telling of Elizabeth I's key moments in her reign as Queen, educating to the viewer/listener, the rise of the British Empire, and the challenges that faced Elizabeth I as one of the most Iconic royals in British history.

The making of Gloriana had a multitude of varied inspirations. Musical inspiration includes Henry Viii's 'Greensleeves', Theocracy's 'I am', and James Newton Howard's 'Beauty killed the beast V' for King Kong (2005). The 'Animation' inspiration was inspired by Pantomimes and the John Lewis 2013 Christmas Advert animation styles. Also the research and academic approach was inspired by Horrible Histories, but targeting a age 10+ audience.

Proving in the aftermath of Gloriana's creation, there was clearly an interest from both general public and Collaboratees. There has definitely been a lot learnt!...

Please check out Gloriana's blog on the journey to learn more about the making of this production:
